Hey, I'm Courtney, and this is the shop behind the house.

Mama Shark with Laser Beams started in 2021 with my first laser and no intention of becoming a business. I was making things for our house, for family, for the kids' teachers, and posting them because I was proud of them. Then the messages started coming in: can you make me one? could you do it with our name? what about for my mom? I said yes, and I kept saying yes, and somewhere in there it turned into this.

The name is exactly what it sounds like. I'm the mama shark. The "with laser beams" part is a joke I couldn't resist, and it's a good reminder of how I want this to feel: light, playful, and not too serious about itself.

What started as one laser is now five, plus a hat press and a shirt press for custom hats and tees. Along the way I picked up leatherwork, woodworking, jewelry engraving, and painting, and I started hosting paint parties in the studio, which is our 24×24 detached garage, remodeled top to bottom for the job. You'll find me at shows and fairs around Butler County most of the year, because as much as I love the making, I love the people who come to the booth just as much.

More than anything, this is my creative outlet. Nothing thrills me more than taking an idea out of a customer's head, bringing it to life, and seeing the look on their face when I hand it over. My two kids, Sawyer and Beck, help in the shop whenever they can (mostly by testing the paint), and honestly that's my favorite part of all.
